LR & DI Preparation Tips

Logical Reasoning Preparation Tip!!!

Logical Reasoning consists of question types which test both mathematical and logical abilities. These questions are there is all MBA entrance exams, and present an interesting challenge to students. Logical Reasoning also known as critical thinking or analytic reasoning. The person with the higher logical reasoning ability is better equipped to work in position that required quick decision making.

CAT Logical Reasoning problems are usually ‘all-or-nothing’ type, in the sense that if you crack the problem you will have answers to all the questions that follow, and if you don’t you will not be able to answer even a single question. This is because if the logic to the problem is known to you, the questions that follow can get solved.

Logical reasoning tests generally non-verbal content, need candidates to interpret and manipulate shapes, numbers and patterns. The logical reasoning tests are designed to measure the ability of the contenders to draw the logical statement or arguments.

SOME KEY POINTS FOR LR

Read the question carefully and make sure you establish why an option is incorrect.

Do not assume information that is not given in the question.
A valid conclusion is one that definitely follow from the information you are given
An invalid conclusion is one of that definitely from the information.
Read both the factual passage and the sentence completion instruction carefully. Both must be considered in making your choice.
Be sure to read all the response choices carefully before eliminating or choosing one of them.
You should also be very careful if any response choices that contain the quantifiers "all" or "none". Generally, in both the sample practice questions and in the actual CAT assessment, these words are NOT signs of incorrect response choices. They will appear in both correct and incorrect response choices.
Pay close attention to the word "ONLY" and to the phrase "IF AND ONLY IF".  Saying "The car lock will open IF AND ONLY IF original keys are used" sets up a highly specific condition that must be met. There is exactly one way to open the car lock - you must use the original keys of the car. By contrast, if the sentence says, "The car lock will open if the original key is used," there may be several ways to open the car lock besides by using the original key.

Data Interpretation Preparation Tips!!!

The best way to improve your speed in Data interpretation would be to practice data interpretation questions regularly. Before solving any DI question, have a look at the options. The difference in the magnitude of options will tell you 'how much you can approximate'. This single thing will save you a lot of time and frustration during the exam and while preparing for it.

Questions in this section will be asked from following topics -

(1)  Tabular Presentation
(2)  Line Chart
(3)  Bar Chart
(4)  Pie Chart
(5)  Mixed DI
(6)  Paragraph/Caselet
(7)  Probability
(8) Data Sufficiency

SOME KEY POINTS

Read and understand the question first

Focus and concentrate
Solve only what is asked
While solving write down the data separately, do not mix up
Practice to improve your speed and accuracy
Practice all different types of DI
No shortcut to hard work and dedicated practice
